How often should I have my chimney swept?

It depends on what you burn. As a general guide: wood and house coal once or twice a year, smokeless fuels at least once a year, and gas appliances once a year. I’m happy to advise you for your own setup.

How long does a sweep take?

A lined chimney is usually about 45 minutes; an open fire around an hour. Every job covers the first 1½ hours, and anything beyond that is a flat £35/hour.

Will it make a mess in my home?

No. Dust-sheets go down and the soot is sealed straight into the vacuum, so your room is left clean and tidy — it’s the thing my customers mention most.

What’s the difference between a lined and unlined chimney?

A lined chimney has a liner fitted inside and sweeps in around 45 minutes (£65). An unlined chimney with a log burner and register plate takes longer to sweep and inspect thoroughly, which is why it’s priced from £100 for the first 1½ hours.

What is a CCTV chimney inspection?

I send a camera up the flue so we can see exactly what’s going on inside — useful before buying a house, after a chimney fire, or if you suspect a blockage. It’s £100.

Do you service stoves too?

Yes — I’m HETAS qualified for stove servicing and maintenance, and can supply vermiculite bricks cut to size, plus glass and rope. Just mention it when you book.
